Ad server for newsletters

Sponsors already want your readers. Selling them one send still takes a rate card, an invoice and a banner chased the night before.

What Pyrobid does here

Your newsletter becomes a zone in your portal, at 300x250 or 600x200, with up to four sends a day, each at your price. A sponsor picks one or more sends, uploads one banner and pays, from their balance or by card through your own Stripe account. You approve it and it runs inside your snippet in that email. A send nobody booked shows your Advertise Here card instead, linking readers to your booking page.

Why this is harder than it should be

The same product, a different obstacle. This is what stands between your advertisers and your inventory.

Every sponsorship is a thread of emails

Rates, dates, an invoice, then chasing the banner before the send. Each step waits on you, and a sponsor who has to wait books another newsletter.

Sponsors buy one issue at a time

A deal sold by email covers the next send and starts from nothing every time. A booking page that lists your sends months ahead lets a sponsor take a run of them in one go.

An unsold send sells nothing

An issue with nobody in the sponsor spot goes out with the space empty. Filled with your Advertise Here card, it shows every reader who runs a business where to book the next one.

What the newsletter platforms offer you

beehiiv's Ad Network pays publications on a paid beehiiv plan per 1,000 unique opens or per click, at each campaign's rate. Its own example: a $5 CPM pays $5 for every 1,000 unique opens in a send.

beehiiv Direct Sponsorships let you sell your own spots from a storefront, for a flat $10 beehiiv fee per placement plus Stripe's processing fee.

Passionfroot keeps 5% of organic collaborations and 15% of the ones that come through its marketplace.

Who buys placements on sites like yours

Software and services in your readers' field, course creators and authors, other newsletters buying a swap, event organisers, local businesses for a city or regional letter, and consumer brands that sponsor by the send.

What sells on sites like yours

Package your space around how these advertisers already buy.

The top spot in each send

One sponsor above your first story, at a flat price per send. The simplest thing to sell, and the easiest to renew.

A run of sends

A sponsor can book up to twenty sends at once with one banner and one payment, so a month of issues is one decision for them.

A second spot, priced lower

A smaller placement further down the email, as its own zone with its own price, for sponsors with smaller budgets.

And what a sponsor sees: your sends coming up, each with its price, ready to book.

How to set it up

  • Add your newsletter in Create Zone at 300x250 or 600x200, with your sends, the days you send and a price for each.
  • Pick your email tool and paste its snippet. Mailchimp, Kit, Brevo, beehiiv, Klaviyo and ActiveCampaign keep it in the template for good.
  • Approve each booking yourself, or let paid bookings straight in.
  • Send sponsors a free media kit with your list, your open rate and your price per send, and your booking page as the way to book.

Sponsors ask for my open rate. Do you count opens?

No, and on purpose. Apple Mail loads pictures as an email arrives and Gmail caches them, so an open count would be a guess. Sponsors pay a flat price per send and see the clicks their link earned, with link scanners, bots and repeat clicks left out. Your subscriber count and open rate are the ones you state on your booking page.

Common questions

What should I charge per send?

Start from a price per 1,000 subscribers and raise it until a few sponsors say no. The newsletter rate calculator works it out from your list size, with the ranges newsletter platforms publish.

Can I sell my website and my newsletter together?

Yes. Both sell from the same branded portal and the same advertiser balance, so a sponsor who books a send can buy a banner on your site in the same visit.

Do I need a website to use it?

No. A newsletter on its own is enough: add it as a zone and sponsors book it on your advertise page. If you have a site too, its slots sell from the same place.

Let sponsors book your next send

A branded portal where sponsors pick a send, upload a banner and pay, with your website slots beside it.
