Sell sponsorships in your newsletter

Set your sends and prices, paste one snippet, share your advertise page and approve what gets booked.

If you send a newsletter, its sponsor spot can be sold here like your ad slots. Advertisers pick a send, upload their ad and pay. You approve it, and it shows in that email by itself.

Set it up

  1. In the Admin view, open Newsletter. From the Publisher view, Create Zone has a Newsletter choice under the zone types that takes you there.
  2. Give its name, how many people get it and, if you like, how many of them open it. Advertisers see both numbers when they book.
  3. Add your sends, one row each: a name, the time it goes out and its price. A newsletter that goes out twice a day has two rows, and each is sold to one sponsor.
  4. Tick the days it goes out, and choose your time zone, the tool you send it with, and how long before a send bookings close.
  5. Press Save and get my snippet.

Put the snippet in your newsletter

The snippet is a few lines of HTML: the ad, the word Sponsored above it, and a link to advertise with you below it. Paste it where the ad should go, in an HTML or code block.

  • Mailchimp, Kit and Brevo can take it once, in your template. Those tools print the moment each email went out, so from then on every send shows its own ad.
  • Every other tool, beehiiv and MailerLite included, takes a snippet per issue. Pick the send on the Newsletter page, copy its snippet and paste it in. The evening before each send day you also get the next day's snippets by email, so it is a ten second job.

Then send yourself a test email. The line under the snippet turns green once it loads. If your tool sent the date back without filling it in, the page says so: use a snippet per issue instead.

A send nobody has bought is not wasted. It shows a Your ad here card in your colour, and a reader who clicks it lands on the page where they can book the next one.

Find sponsors

Under Bookings on the Newsletter page is your advertise page. Send its link to the people who sponsor you now and the ones you would like to. They see your sends and prices, create an account, and book and pay in a few minutes, without an email back and forth about dates.

Approve bookings

When an advertiser pays for a send, you get an email with their ad and its link. Approve or decline it under Bookings, any time before the send. A booking you have not approved by then is declined by itself, and the advertiser gets their money back.

Once you know the people buying from you, untick Approve each booking myself and paid bookings go straight in. You can still decline one before its send.

Where the money goes

Advertisers pay into their balance on this network, the same balance they use for your website ads, so a card payment lands in your own payment account like any other top-up. A declined booking puts the money back in their balance, ready for another send.

See the clicks

Each booking shows its clicks once the send has gone out. Mail filters open every link in an email before a person sees it, so those, bots and repeat clicks from the same person are left out. What is left is readers.

Run all of this on your own site.
