For site owners
Quick start: your first ten minutes
Make it yours, add an ad slot and set your price, paste one piece of code, and send advertisers your sign-up link.
Four steps, about ten minutes, and your site is selling its own ad space. The setup screen walks you through each one the first time you log in. This page is the same four steps, to read first or to come back to.
1. Make it yours
Add your site's name, pick a colour and upload your logo. No logo yet? Leave it, and the setup screen draws one from your name and colour. You can swap it for the real thing whenever you like.
Advertisers see your name and your colours on every screen of your portal, in the emails it sends them and on your sign-up page. More about branding.
On the Pro plan, the same screen also puts your portal on a domain of your own, like ads.yoursite.com: add one CNAME record in your DNS, type the name in and press Save and check. It switches on with your first payment, and the address you have now keeps working alongside it.
2. Add an ad slot and set your price
An ad slot is the space on your page where ads appear. Pick a size. Not sure? The 300 x 250 medium rectangle fits almost anywhere, including phones.
Then set your price: what an advertiser pays each time their ad is shown 1,000 times in your slot. At $2.00, every 10,000 views an advertiser books brings you $20.00.
- It is your price for visitors from the US. Other countries pay a share of it.
- Advertisers can bid more than your price to be shown more often, and they pay what they bid.
- Start low to win your first advertisers. You can change it any time.
What shows while nothing is booked
Until your first advertisers arrive, this is what your visitors see, so the setup screen asks you to pick:
- Your Advertise card, recommended: a card in your colours that sends anyone who clicks it to your sign-up page. It finds you advertisers.
- Your existing ad code: already use Google AdSense or another network? Paste its code and it fills the slot whenever nothing is booked, so you keep that income. One view in ten shows your Advertise card instead, so advertisers can still find you. To keep every unsold view on your code, untick Show my Advertise card on 1 unsold view in 10 under the box you paste it in.
- Nothing: the space collapses until an advertiser books it.
Want another format, your own image, or sticky and scroll settings? Use the full zone editor, linked from the same screen. It is also where you make every slot after the first: Publisher view, Create Zone. More about what shows when nothing sells.
3. Paste one piece of code on your site
Copy the code from the setup screen and paste it into the HTML of your page, at the spot where the ad should appear. That is the only change your site needs. Where to paste it depends on what your site is built with:
WordPress
- Open the page or post and add a Custom HTML block where the ad should go.
- Paste the code into it and press Update.
- For every page at once, put a Custom HTML block or widget in your sidebar instead: Appearance, then Widgets or Editor, depending on your theme.
A normal paragraph block strips the code out, so it has to be Custom HTML.
Shopify
- Go to Online Store, then Themes, and press Customize.
- Add a Custom Liquid section where the ad should go.
- Paste the code into it and press Save.
Wix
- Press Add, then Embed Code, then Embed HTML.
- Choose Code, paste the code and press Update.
- Drag the box to where the ad should go and size it to your slot, for example 300 x 250.
Squarespace
- Edit the page and add a Code block where the ad should go.
- Paste the code into it and press Save.
On Squarespace, code blocks that run scripts need the Business plan or above.
Any other site
- Open the HTML of the page where the ad should go.
- Paste the code at that spot, anywhere inside the
<body>, for example inside the<div>that holds your sidebar. - Save and publish.
Someone else runs your site? The setup screen has an Email them the code link. It opens an email with the code and a link to step-by-step instructions, ready to send.
Check it is working. Open the page in your browser. Until an advertiser books the slot, it shows what you picked for it, and the setup screen turns green and says Live, with your site's name. Nothing showing? Put the tag on your site has the fixes, in the order to try them.
4. Send your sign-up link to advertisers
Your network has its own advertiser sign-up page: your portal's address with
/advertise on the end, https://yourname.pyrobid.com/advertise.
Anyone who signs up there
can create an ad and buy space on your site, under your name.
- Put it behind an Advertise with us link in your site's menu or footer.
- Add it to your email signature and your social profiles.
- Send it to businesses whose customers read your site. The setup screen writes the message for you, with one-tap sharing by email, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, X and Facebook.
Your slot sells itself as well: until it is booked, its card links to the same sign-up page. Who to ask first, and how to give them a free trial.
Then: get paid
Advertisers pay you, not us. There are two ways in, and you can use both.
Card payments
Connect your Stripe account under Payments in the Admin view: press Connect with Stripe, then sign in to Stripe or create an account on the way through. Advertisers then pay by card when they add money, and it goes to your own Stripe account. We take nothing from it. Connect Stripe, step by step.
No payment gateway? No problem: vouchers
Vouchers need no payment gateway at all. Take payment any way that suits you and your advertiser, like a bank transfer, PayPal, crypto or an invoice, then:
- In the Admin view, open Vouchers and create a voucher for the same amount.
- Send the advertiser the code.
- They enter it on their Add Funds screen, and the credit is ready to spend on your site.
A voucher also makes a good free trial: $20 of credit lets a new advertiser try your site and see real numbers with nothing to lose. How payments work.
Admin and Publisher: two views, one login
You run the network and you own the site, so your account has two views. Switch between them with the Admin / Publisher toggle at the top of every page. On a phone it is in the account menu, top right. There is nothing to log out of.
- Admin: run the network
- Manage advertiser accounts, approve their ads, create vouchers, see every campaign, and set your branding, country prices and payments.
- Publisher: your ad slots
- Make new slots, copy their code, change a slot's price or its Advertise card, and see what each one earns.
If a page says it is not available to you, you are probably in the other view. The page offers a button to switch.
Where to find things later
- Your ad code
- Publisher view, Zones. The code icon on the slot's row.
- Your price
- Publisher view, Zones. Edit the slot.
- Your sign-up link
- Admin view, on your dashboard, ready to copy.
- Vouchers
- Admin view, Vouchers.
Run all of this on your own site.
